BFT PHOBOS BT A40 Swing Gate Motor

The BFT PHOBOS BT A40 supports four control units: THALIA BT A80 (Bluetooth-enabled, wireless configuration), THALIA (standard 24V residential board), ZARA BT A 80 (Bluetooth-enabled ZARA variant), and ZARA (standard ZARA board). The ZARA is a BFT control unit in the same 24V family as the THALIA but with a different feature set and user interface, designed for the PHOBOS BT and related operator range. This four-board compatibility makes the PHOBOS BT A40 the most flexible product in terms of control unit selection in our swing gate motor range — whether you prefer Bluetooth commissioning (BT A80 variants) or standard wired programming (THALIA or ZARA), the motor accommodates all four. The PHOBOS BT A40 and KUSTOS BT A40 are both 24V/40W intensive-use operators for 4.0m/500kg gates with magnetic limit switches, D-Track, personal key release, IPX4, and -20°C to +55°C range. The KUSTOS BT A40 uses a 355mm rod stroke reaching 126° in 17 seconds per full cycle, includes MITTO2 COOL C4 remotes, and is an active product. The PHOBOS BT A40 uses a 400mm rod stroke reaching 124° with movement time specified as approximately 20 seconds to 90° excluding slowdown, is compatible with four control units (THALIA BT A80, ZARA BT A 80, THALIA, ZARA), and is listed as phase-out. If choosing between them, the KUSTOS BT A40 is the longer-term stock option; the PHOBOS BT A40 suits buyers already in the ZARA or THALIA ecosystem with specific requirements.

BFT specifies the PHOBOS BT A40’s movement time differently from most motors in the range: approximately 20 seconds to reach 90° of opening, measured excluding the slowdown period and with the maximum gate size and weight (4m/500kg). This means the total cycle time to full open (beyond 90° up to 124°) plus the slowdown deceleration phase will be longer than 20 seconds. Under lighter gate conditions — shorter leaves or lower weight — the motor moves faster. For context, the KUSTOS BT A40 completes a full cycle in 17 seconds. The 20-second-to-90° specification on the PHOBOS BT A40 reflects its 400mm stroke working against the maximum rated load, confirming it maintains consistent D-Track-controlled movement even under peak stress conditions.

Like the BFT KUSTOS BT A40 and BENINCA-range 24V motors, the PHOBOS BT A40’s 40W 24V DC motor achieves 500 kg gate movement through a precision worm gear mechanism that converts high-speed low-torque motor rotation into high-force linear rod travel via the 400mm actuator stroke. The THALIA or ZARA control board applies D-Track dynamic load monitoring throughout the cycle, ramping power progressively at gate startup and adjusting torque based on real-time load rather than running at constant maximum power. The gate hinge bears all vertical weight; the motor only overcomes horizontal inertia and friction. This mechanical efficiency means the PHOBOS BT A40 uses the same 40W as a KUSTOS BT A25 handling a 2.5m/400kg gate — three times smaller — while managing a significantly heavier and longer gate.

The BFT PHOBOS BT A40 carries a full 24-month manufacturer warranty from purchase covering material and workmanship defects — the phase-out status does not reduce or affect the warranty period. What phase-out does affect is parts availability after the warranty period: replacement actuator components, control unit spares, and accessories may become harder to source as BFT transitions production to successor products. Within the warranty window, all claims are handled normally. Warranty is voided by power surge damage to the THALIA or ZARA control board, incorrect bracket geometry placing off-axis stress on the 400mm rod, D-Track miscalibration, or IPX4 installation in an exposed position.
