BFT GIUNO ULTRA BT A50 Hydraulic Swing Gate Motor

At 800 kg maximum gate leaf weight, the GIUNO ULTRA BT A50 has the highest weight capacity of any swing gate motor in our range — 300 kg more than the BFT ELI BT A40 underground (500 kg) and significantly higher than the ATHOS AC A25 (700 kg) or BOB50M surface motor (3500N thrust). This capacity is required for solid steel panel gates, heavily ornamental wrought-iron designs with stone inlays, double-skin security gates, or large timber-framed gates common in premium Abu Dhabi palace entrances, large villa compounds, and commercial security perimeters. For a gate leaf up to 5.0m in length at 800kg, the hydraulic drive also ensures smooth, controlled movement without the mechanical stress that would degrade a gear-driven motor over time.

“Very intensive” is the highest duty cycle rating in the BFT swing gate motor range — exceeding even the “intensive” rating of the BFT ELI underground motors and the “continuous” rating of the ELI BT A40. In practical terms, the GIUNO ULTRA BT A50 can operate at high cycle frequency throughout the day without thermal overrun or mandatory rest intervals, making it suitable for Abu Dhabi commercial entrance gates, multi-residence compounds, hospital access points, and industrial facilities where gate demand is constant and unpredictable. The hydraulic mechanism’s natural heat-dissipation through oil circulation contributes directly to this very intensive rating, maintaining consistent performance during sustained high-frequency use.

The GIUNO ULTRA BT A50 features selectable hydraulic locking in both the open and closed positions. When the hydraulic lock is active at the closed position, oil pressure within the cylinder physically prevents the gate from being pushed open by external force — providing a mechanical security lock without requiring a separate electric lock on the gate leaf. The open-position lock holds the gate fully open during loading, unloading, or vehicle manoeuvring without the gate creeping back. Being selectable means each function can be individually enabled or disabled during commissioning via the THALIA P control unit, allowing the installer to configure the lock behaviour to match the specific security and access requirements of the Abu Dhabi site.

The GIUNO ULTRA BT A50 uses Idrolux Winter hydraulic oil in its sealed piston mechanism. Unlike electromechanical motors that require periodic grease lubrication of gear teeth, the hydraulic system’s oil is a sealed fluid medium that circulates within the actuator — it does not require topping up under normal operating conditions. However, the oil should be inspected periodically (typically every 2–3 years or as specified by BFT) for contamination, discolouration, or viscosity change, which can indicate seal degradation. In Abu Dhabi’s high-temperature environment, the -20°C to +60°C operating range and Idrolux Winter’s formulation ensure stable viscosity across the full temperature range. The magnetic limit switches and D-Track system should also be checked annually for accurate gate position detection.

The BFT GIUNO ULTRA BT A50 carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty from purchase covering material and workmanship defects. For a hydraulic operator, warranty is most at risk from: oil seal failure caused by incorrect installation geometry placing side-load stress on the 392mm piston rod; substitution of Idrolux Winter with an incorrect hydraulic oil, which changes the fluid viscosity and pressure characteristics designed into the piston system; and overloading beyond the 800 kg or 5.0m gate leaf specification. The motor’s IP55 protection (dust-protected and water jet resistant, but not fully submersible like IP67 underground motors) means the operator must be surface-mounted correctly to prevent water pooling at the actuator housing.
