LIFE ER4 UNI Underground Swing Gate Motor

The LIFE ER4 UNI’s 35% intermittence is a unique duty rating in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi underground motor range — above the CAME FROG-AE’s 30% but below most intensive-use underground motors. At 35%, the ER4 UNI can operate for approximately 18–22 gate cycles per day at Abu Dhabi ambient temperatures. This intermediate rating positions the ER4 UNI between a standard 30% residential underground motor and an intensive commercial one, making it appropriate for Abu Dhabi villas with slightly above-average traffic or entrance gates accessed by multiple households sharing one entrance.

The UNI designation on the LIFE ER4 UNI confirms this is the version without an encoder. LIFE’s ERGO range includes seven variants across two 24V and five 230V versions — some with encoders, some without. The UNI version relies on mechanical stops for both opening and closing positions, which physically define the gate’s travel limits. Position control is via timed motor run rather than encoder feedback. If encoder-based position monitoring, obstacle detection, and partial opening are required for this installation, the encoder-equipped ERGO variant should be specified instead. Both the LIFE ER4 UNI and CAME FROG-AE are 230V AC underground motors with IP67 protection and 18-second 90° cycle. The ER4 UNI delivers 350 Nm at 300W with 35% intermittence, +70°C, 140°C thermal, no encoder, and three foundation box options. The FROG-AE delivers 460W with 30% intermittence, encoder-based adjustable leaf-closing, and 150°C thermal. The ER4 UNI has a higher upper temperature rating and three foundation box choices; the FROG-AE has more power and encoder precision. For no-encoder installations requiring thermal resilience, the ER4 UNI is the stronger choice.

LIFE offers three different foundation box types for the ERGO ER4 UNI — more options than any other underground motor in the range. Different foundation box types accommodate varying pit depths, drainage configurations, and gate pillar geometries that differ across Abu Dhabi properties. Selecting the correct box type before groundwork ensures the motor sits at the right height and angle relative to the gate hinge pivot, and that drainage routing fits the site. Because foundation boxes are permanently cast into concrete, the correct type must be specified before installation begins — changing the box after pouring requires full excavation and repouring.

The LIFE ER4 UNI carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty. Critical pre-installation requirements: the gate weight must be verified against the LIFE limit-on-use chart (not a single published maximum) before specifying. The correct foundation box type must be selected and installed before concrete is poured. The 2.5m pre-wired cables must reach the control unit without extension; if the distance is greater, plan cable routing during foundation work. The 140°C thermal protection is 10°C lower than most underground motors, so the 35% intermittence must not be exceeded.
