The Somfy Ixengo JL 230V is the only screw-type swing gate motorization in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi range. All other surface swing gate motors use a linear rod actuator (a motor that pushes and pulls a solid metal rod). A screw motorization converts rotary motor output directly through a lead screw thread into linear movement, rather than a gear-and-rod mechanism. This produces smoother, more consistent force throughout the stroke, lower acoustic noise, and a more compact mechanism at 5.5 kg and 300mm stroke — even while delivering 3000N of force.

Somfy publishes the Ixengo JL’s capacity as a gate-size-dependent table: up to 1000 kg at 1.5m leaf length or 300 kg at 4.0m, both with an electric lock fitted. Without an electric lock, the maximum leaf is 2m with no specified weight ceiling beyond gate construction limits. The 1000 kg capacity at 1.5m is among the highest short-leaf weight ratings in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi range, making the Ixengo JL suitable for heavy ornamental iron gates on Abu Dhabi villas where the leaf is short but structurally very heavy.

Somfy specifies the Ixengo JL’s 3000N of traction (pull) and 3000N of push force. Most motors in the range publish a single thrust figure without specifying whether it is push or pull dominant. The screw mechanism’s geometry produces equal force in both extension and retraction directions, meaning the Ixengo JL operates at full rated capacity whether the gate is opening or closing. For heavy Abu Dhabi gates where wind or gate weight creates significant resistance in both directions equally, symmetric 3000N bidirectional force ensures consistent performance throughout the gate’s cycle without a weaker direction.

The Somfy Ixengo JL uses RTS (Radio Technology Somfy) — Somfy’s proprietary one-way 433 MHz rolling code radio protocol. The CB 230 RTS control box includes an integrated RTS receiver, and the kit supplies two Keytis 2 RTS remote controls. RTS remotes are paired to the CB 230 RTS during commissioning. Because RTS is proprietary, only Somfy RTS-compatible transmitters work with the system — generic 433 MHz remotes are not compatible. Additional Somfy RTS remotes can be paired for multiple users, and the Somfy ecosystem includes RTS-compatible keypads and smartphone interfaces.

The Somfy Ixengo JL uses permanent grease inside the screw mechanism — factory-applied lubricant sealed within the housing that does not require periodic re-greasing during the motor’s service life. This reduces maintenance requirements compared to motors specifying scheduled lubrication intervals. Separately, Somfy states that ground stop blocks are compulsory for both the opening and closing positions. Physical stops in the gate path prevent the Ixengo JL’s screw from reaching the end of its 300mm stroke under motor power, which would damage the mechanism. The gate must be stopped by the ground blocks before the cylinder reaches its travel limit.

The Somfy Ixengo JL 230V carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty. Critical requirements: ground stop blocks must be installed before commissioning — the screw mechanism is damaged if the cylinder reaches end-of-travel under motor power. For gate leaves exceeding 2m or in windy Abu Dhabi locations, an electric lock is mandatory. The left-hand and right-hand motors supplied must be correctly matched to their respective gate leaves.
