BFT PHOBOS AC A25 Swing Gate Motor

The BFT PHOBOS AC A25 carries an IPX4 rating — the only motor in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi swing gate range with an X in the IP code. The X in the first digit position means solid particle protection has not been rated or tested by the manufacturer; it does not mean there is no dust protection, but rather that no claim is made for it. The second digit 4 means the motor is protected against water splashing from any direction. This is a weaker overall IP declaration than the ATHOS AC A25’s IP54 (which explicitly confirms dust-resistance and water splash protection). For Abu Dhabi outdoor installation, the PHOBOS AC A25 should be positioned on pillars that provide reasonable natural shelter from both concentrated dust and direct water spray to maintain reliable long-term performance.

Most 230V swing gate motors for 2.5m gates use strokes between 270–300mm. The BFT PHOBOS AC A25’s 350mm rod stroke is significantly longer, and this directly enables its 120° maximum opening angle — 10° wider than the ATHOS AC A25 (110°) and the same as the BFT ELI 250 N BT underground motor. The longer stroke pushes the gate leaf further through its arc from the same bracket mounting position. For Abu Dhabi villa gates that open inward into tight driveways, the extra 10° of opening means a meaningfully wider vehicle passage clearance without increasing the motor’s distance from the hinge. The 350mm stroke also contributes to the PHOBOS’s more efficient 210W power draw: the longer lever arm reduces the force required at any given point in the arc.

The BFT PHOBOS AC A25 kit includes a pair of photocells adjustable 180° horizontally with a 20-metre detection range. Unlike the self-aligning photocells in some BFT kits (which automatically compensate for minor alignment deviation), these photocells allow the installer to manually rotate the transmitter and receiver head through a full 180° horizontal arc during installation — making them suitable for gate pillar positions where the transmitter and receiver cannot be mounted directly opposite each other. The 20-metre range is adequate for most Abu Dhabi residential driveway widths. The 180° adjustability provides flexibility for complex pillar layouts without requiring additional mounting adapters.

The BFT PHOBOS AC A25 kit includes the RIGEL 6 220–230V 50/60Hz control panel as its primary board — the same multi-channel control unit found in the IGEA KIT and compatible with the ELI AC A40. The RIGEL 6 supports up to 6 connected automation devices, giving the PHOBOS installation more expandability than kits supplied with the ALENA SW2. The PHOBOS AC A25 is also compatible with the ALENA SW2 if a simpler single-gate board is preferred. This dual control unit compatibility (RIGEL 6 and ALENA SW2) mirrors the ELI AC A40 and gives Abu Dhabi installers the flexibility to spec the PHOBOS A25 for anything from a straightforward residential villa gate to a more complex multi-device access control installation.

The BFT PHOBOS AC A25 carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty from purchase covering material and workmanship defects under normal operating conditions. Because the PHOBOS uses a 350mm stroke electronic clutch motor at 210W, warranty is voided by power surge damage to the RIGEL 6 control board, incorrect bracket geometry placing off-axis stress on the rod at full extension, or electronic clutch force miscalibration that causes the motor to apply excessive load against the gate stop on each cycle. The IPX4 rating means the motor requires a sheltered installation position — direct dust accumulation or water exposure beyond splash level is a warranty risk.
