The BFT ELI AC A40 lists standard limit switch: N/A, meaning it relies on integrated mechanical opening and closing stops to physically halt the gate at its open and closed positions rather than using an electronic limit sensor as the primary position control. The motor’s electronic clutch (operated via the connected control panel) detects the increased torque when the gate hits the mechanical stop and cuts power to the motor. An optional magnetic limit switch can be added as a secondary precision trigger. This approach is robust for underground motors where long-term electronic sensor reliability in damp, sealed conditions can be a concern — mechanical stops are physically durable and do not degrade with moisture exposure.

This specification means the BFT ELI AC A40 can handle gate panels up to 4.0m in total leaf width, but for panels longer than 2.5m, BFT requires an electric lock to be installed to maintain secure gate closure. Gates longer than 2.5m experience greater lever force at the leading edge due to the extended arm length, which can cause the gate to drift slightly open under wind pressure or accidental push when the motor is in the closed position. An electric lock anchors the gate leaf firmly at closure, preventing this movement. When the built-in slowdown function is enabled (recommended for most installations), the gate decelerates as it approaches its 120° open and closed positions, adding a few seconds to the total cycle time but significantly reducing mechanical stress on the foundation box, gate hinge, and gate leaf at end-of-travel. Because the ELI AC A40 uses mechanical stops rather than a standard electronic limit switch, the mechanical stop alignment is critical — incorrect stop positioning causes the electronic clutch to cut power at the wrong gate position, leading to repeated mechanical stress that voids the warranty. Inadequate underground drainage exceeding the IP67 rating’s 1-metre immersion specification is the most common warranty-voiding condition in Abu Dhabi underground installations.
