FAAC 770N Swing Gate Motor

Underground motors are typically accessed by opening the foundation box cover, which on some designs requires removing the gate leaf from its hinges to reach the motor. The FAAC 770N is engineered so the operator can be serviced, inspected, or released while the gate leaf remains in place. For Abu Dhabi maintenance visits — annual servicing, fault diagnosis, capacitor replacement — this eliminates the significant labour cost and site disruption of temporarily unhanging a heavy steel or iron gate leaf from its underground pivot. It is a practical engineering advantage that directly reduces lifetime maintenance cost.

Both the FAAC 770N and CAME FROG-AE are 230V underground operators with IP67 protection, S3-30% duty, and up to 3.5m leaves with electric lock. The FAAC 770N delivers 330 Nm torque at 380W and offers a patented dual-side release, no-leaf-removal service access, and 140°/180° optional kits. The FROG-AE delivers 460W with encoder-based position control and adjustable leaf-closing. The 770N suits installations prioritising maintenance access and dual-side release; the FROG-AE suits installations requiring encoder precision and faster 18-second cycles.

The FAAC 770N specifies its output speed as 6 degrees per second of gate arc rather than a cycle time to 90°. At 6°/second, a full 90° opening takes 15 seconds, and a 110° full opening takes approximately 18 seconds. For optional 140° or 180° configurations, the motor takes 23 and 30 seconds respectively. Angular speed is a more precise specification than a single time figure because it tells the installer exactly how long any specific opening angle will take — useful when designing sequential leaf timing in a double-gate system with specific traffic-flow requirements.

The FAAC 770N’s standard maximum opening is 110°. With FAAC’s optional kits, it can be configured for 140° or 180°, the latter allowing the gate leaf to open completely flat parallel to the boundary wall. At 6°/second, a 180° opening takes approximately 30 seconds per leaf. For Abu Dhabi properties where a wide vehicle access clearance or a full gate stow is required, the 180° option is available from a single underground motor without any surface-mounted mechanism. The optional kit must be specified before foundation installation as it affects the foundation box geometry.

The FAAC 770N carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty. Critical pre-installation requirements: the foundation box dimensions (430 × 307.5 × 214 mm) must be correctly excavated and positioned before concrete is poured — the 180° optional kit changes the required orientation. The 400V 12.5µF capacitor must be correctly connected; an incorrectly wired or wrong-value capacitor prevents the 380W motor from starting. For leaves over 2.0m, an electric lock is required.
