FAAC 415 230V Swing Gate Motor

The FAAC 415 is an in-axis thrust operator — the motor rod pushes along an axis that is aligned with the gate hinge pivot, delivering force directly through the gate’s natural rotation axis. This contrasts with the FAAC 413’s off-axis design where the rod pushes at a deliberate angular offset. In-axis thrust provides consistent, predictable force throughout the opening arc without the leverage variation an angular offset creates. For gates up to 3.0m with 3000N, in-axis delivery ensures the force is efficiently applied at every point in the 110° travel.

The FAAC 415 includes a 400V-rated 8 microfarad thrust capacitor as a dedicated kit component. The capacitor serves two roles: as a run capacitor creating the phase shift needed for the asynchronous single-phase 230V motor to operate, and as a thrust capacitor that boosts starting torque briefly at motor startup to overcome gate inertia. The 400V voltage rating (above the 230V supply) is a FAAC design choice that provides a safety margin against capacitor degradation, which is a common failure mode in gate motors exposed to Abu Dhabi’s heat cycles. The capacitor is a field-replaceable component.

The FAAC 415 uses a dual-bracket system: the rear attachment (motor body to pillar) can be welded or screwed, while the front attachment (rod end to gate leaf) must be welded. The front bracket experiences the highest stress point in each cycle — it is where the 3000N rod force is transferred into the gate leaf structure. A screwed connection at this high-stress point risks bolt loosening under repeated load cycles, particularly on a 300W motor with more thrust than the 413. Welding the front bracket ensures it cannot move or rotate under 3000N operational force.

The FAAC 415 handles gates up to 2.5m without additional locking, relying on its internal mechanical self-lock to hold the gate closed. Beyond 2.5m, the gate leaf’s wind-catch area and weight create latch-point forces exceeding what the self-lock can reliably withstand in Abu Dhabi’s shamal wind conditions. An electric lock adds a powered bolt at the gate post, extending the safely automatable leaf to 3.0m by sharing the holding load. This staged approach — 2.5m self-lock, 3.0m with lock — is FAAC’s engineering specification for this motor’s force and locking capacity.

The FAAC 415 carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty. The front bracket welding is non-negotiable — a screwed front fixing voids warranty through mechanical misuse when 3000N force causes loosening. For gates over 2.5m, the included electric lock in the kit must be installed. The 400V 8µF capacitor must be correctly connected to the E045S control unit — incorrect capacitor wiring prevents the asynchronous motor from starting. The S3-30% duty cycle must be respected; the 140°C thermal cutout is 10°C lower than most motors, so overuse triggers protection sooner.
