CAME FROG-X Underground Swing Gate Operator

The CAME FROG-X’s Adaptive Speed and Torque Technology is a real-time motor management system unique to the FROG-X in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi range. It continuously monitors the gate’s actual movement speed and the torque the motor is applying, and adjusts both dynamically throughout each cycle. When the gate starts from standstill, the system applies higher torque to overcome inertia, then transitions to a smooth operating speed. As the gate approaches its stop position, speed is automatically reduced to prevent impact. If the gate encounters an obstacle mid-cycle, the torque data detects the resistance spike and triggers a safety reversal. This is more sophisticated than a fixed-threshold electronic clutch or standard encoder detection, because the system adapts its expected torque curve to the actual gate behaviour across its full 10–18 second adjustable cycle.

The CAME FROG-X and CAME FROG-AE are both CAME underground swing gate operators with IP67 protection, encoder control, adjustable closing leaf stop, and obstacle detection. The FROG-X uses a 24V brushless motor at 125W handling up to 4.0m and 400 kg in 10–18 seconds with Adaptive Speed and Torque Technology, CXN BUS, and CAME Connect. The FROG-AE uses a 230V AC motor at 460W handling up to 3.5m and 400 kg in 18 seconds with a 30% duty cycle. The FROG-X is faster, handles a longer leaf, consumes less power, and offers more intelligent motor management. The FROG-AE suits direct 230V mains installations without a transformer. The FROG-X suits premium 24V installations prioritising efficiency, smart control, and longer motor service life from the brushless design.

The CAME FROG-X’s 15A maximum absorption is the highest peak current of any motor in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi range. At 24V, 15A equals 360W of peak power draw — far above the 125W rated running power. This peak current occurs during the startup phase when the brushless motor accelerates a stationary 400 kg gate from rest: overcoming static inertia demands a surge of current that drops back sharply once the gate is in motion. The brushless motor’s electronic commutation allows it to handle this high startup current precisely and safely, unlike conventional motors where brush arcing at peak current causes wear. The 801QA-0170 control panel and its 24V power supply must be rated to deliver 15A peak without voltage collapse, as undersupply during startup causes motor management errors and unreliable gate behaviour.

The CAME FROG-X supports CXN BUS connectivity through its compatible 801QA-0170 control panel. CXN BUS is CAME’s digital communication bus that enables multiple CAME devices — keypads, card readers, intercom interfaces, photocells, and other access control components — to communicate over a shared two-wire bus rather than individual dedicated wiring runs. This simplifies multi-device gate installations and enables system-level configuration through the 801QA-0170 panel. Combined with CAME Connect IoT compatibility, the FROG-X can be integrated into a smart access control ecosystem: remote operation via smartphone, real-time status monitoring, and event logging. For Abu Dhabi premium villas and commercial compounds requiring sophisticated access control alongside concealed underground gate aesthetics, the CXN BUS capability makes the FROG-X far more scalable than any other underground motor in the range.

The CAME FROG-X carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty from purchase. Three factors are critical. First, only the 801QA-0170 control panel is compatible — using any other panel with the FROG-X’s brushless motor and Adaptive Speed and Torque Technology is not supported and voids warranty. Second, the 24V power supply must sustain 15A peak without voltage sag — an undersized supply causes startup failures that appear as motor faults. Third, foundation drainage must be correctly engineered: despite IP67 protection, the FROG-X’s brushless electronics are more sensitive to prolonged moisture exposure than conventional AC motors. The CXN BUS and CAME Connect wiring must also be correctly screened to prevent interference with the motor’s encoder signal.
