Marantec Comfort 515 Swing Gate Motor

The Marantec Comfort 515 carries an IEC S2 – 5 minute duty rating — a different IEC class from the S3-30% used by the FAAC 413 and 415. S2 is short-time duty: the motor can run continuously for a maximum of 5 minutes before a mandatory thermal rest period. In practice for a swing gate, one open/close cycle takes approximately 15–25 seconds, so reaching 5 minutes of continuous running would require 12–20 consecutive cycles without stopping — well beyond any normal residential use pattern. The S2-5min rating effectively means the Comfort 515 is suitable for standard residential usage with natural rest intervals between gate cycles.

The Marantec Comfort 515 is the only swing gate motor in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi range to publish a maximum gate leaf height of 2.0 metres alongside the usual length and weight limits. Taller gate leaves present a larger surface area to wind, generating higher lateral force at the latch point even on lighter-weight gates. A 2.5m wide gate leaf that is 2.5m tall catches significantly more wind than the same gate at 2.0m tall. For Abu Dhabi sites in wind-exposed locations, tall solid-panel gate leaves approaching or exceeding 2.0m height should be specified with the Comfort 515’s height limit firmly in mind.

The Marantec Comfort 515 uses 868 MHz bi.linked — Marantec’s bidirectional radio protocol operating on 868 MHz. Unlike standard one-way 433 MHz or 868 MHz remote systems where the transmitter sends a command and receives no confirmation, bi.linked is bidirectional: the motor’s Digital 921 receiver module sends an acknowledgement signal back to the Digital 564 hand transmitter confirming the command was received and the gate responded. This bidirectional confirmation eliminates uncertainty about whether the gate opened or closed, particularly useful when the gate is out of direct line of sight from the remote user.

Marantec’s 2-wire technology on the Comfort 515 allows the motor and control accessories — such as photocells and safety contact strips — to be wired to the Control x.52 panel using a two-conductor cable rather than multi-wire runs. Communication and power travel over the same two wires using digital signals that the panel decodes. This halves the number of conductors needed in the cable run from the pillar to the motor and between accessories, making the Comfort 515 particularly well-suited for retrofit installations where existing two-core conduit already runs through the gate post and cannot easily be replaced with multi-conductor cable.

The Marantec Comfort 515 carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty backed by Marantec’s German engineering quality standard. The lockable unlocking device means the manual release mechanism on the motor housing can be secured with a lock, preventing unauthorised persons from manually disengaging the motor and forcing the gate open. This is a security feature specific to Marantec in the range — most other motors’ release mechanisms are accessible without a lock.
