Marantec Comfort RA Swing Gate Motor

The Marantec Comfort RA uses a worm screw drive located inside the opener housing rather than an external linear rod exposed between the motor body and gate bracket. The screw mechanism is fully enclosed within the powder-coated die-cast aluminium chassis, protecting it from dust, debris, and water without relying on the motor’s IP rating alone. This internal design makes the Comfort RA more compact than exposed-rod actuators, reduces the visible mechanical components on the gate pillar, and eliminates the risk of the rod being damaged by foreign objects — a meaningful advantage for Abu Dhabi pillar-mounted installations.

The Marantec Comfort RA and Marantec Comfort 515 are both Marantec 24V DC swing gate motors sharing UV-resistant covers and very quiet mechanisms. The RA range handles gates up to 4.0m/600kg in three variants with an internal worm screw drive, while the Comfort 515 is a single-leaf set for 2.5m/200kg with 868 MHz bi.linked radio and S2-5min duty. The RA4224E runs at 1.5 cm/s versus the 515’s faster 2.0 cm/s. The RA2224 is specifically suited to retrofit installations; the 515 is a complete single-gate set for light residential use.

The Comfort RA2224 (no encoder version) is specifically described by Marantec as suitable for retrofits with minimal cabling. This means it can be installed in existing gate systems where cable runs are already in place and re-routing or adding additional conductors is impractical. Without an encoder, the motor requires fewer control wires between the motor and control panel — position control is managed via timed motor runs rather than encoder signal wires. The Marantec Comfort RA includes adjustable gate and pillar bracket angles, allowing the installer to compensate for pillar faces that are not perfectly perpendicular to the gate leaf’s opening arc. The adjustable brackets allow the motor to be correctly aligned to the gate’s geometric axis without custom shimming or bracket fabrication on-site, ensuring the internal worm screw operates on-axis throughout the full 120° opening arc.

The Marantec Comfort RA carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty from purchase. The correct model selection is the most critical warranty factor: the RA2224 must not be used on gates exceeding 3.0m or 500kg, and the RA4224E must stay within 4.0m and 600kg — exceeding these limits causes cumulative worm screw overload. The encoder versions (RA2224E and RA4224E) must be correctly commissioned during installation; an uncalibrated encoder causes position errors and false obstacle detection.
