Product Overview

LIFE ERGO Gate Motor is an underground swing gate automation solution designed for clean, durable, and quiet gate operation in Abu Dhabi. It is suitable for customers who want the motor installed below ground level while maintaining a neat gate appearance. LIFE describes ERGO as a buried motor with sturdy mechanics, silent operation, and long-term reliability. The 230V ERGO range is available in multiple versions, including ER4 UNI for swing gate leaves up to 3 m, depending on gate structure and site conditions. Professional installation is recommended for correct alignment, safe operation, and long service life.

Use Cases

Compatibility and Installation Notes

LIFE ERGO is designed for swing gates and must be matched with the correct ERGO version according to gate leaf length, gate weight, hinge geometry, opening angle, foundation box type, and site wind conditions. LIFE notes that in windy areas or where the gate has a particular structural shape, the usage limits should be reduced. Installation should be completed by a trained gate automation technician because underground motors require accurate foundation box positioning, drainage consideration, mechanical stop setting, control unit wiring, photocell alignment, and safety testing. Installers can review the official LIFE technical sheet for model dimensions and technical data.

The LIFE ERGO 230V kit bundles two LIFE ER4 UNI motors with a complete set of installation accessories: the GE UNI RS DL control unit with integrated receiver, VISIO external safety photocells, a blinker light with antenna, two Maxi2 433.92 MHz rolling code transmitters, push button, and two fixing brackets. The single ER4 UNI listing supplies one motor, condenser, and pre-wired cables only — no control board or accessories. For a standard Abu Dhabi double-leaf underground swing gate installation, this kit provides everything except the foundation boxes, which must be selected from LIFE’s three available options and ordered separately.

The LIFE ERGO is described as an irreversible electromechanical underground gear motor with jointed arm — meaning its output connects to the gate leaf via an articulated arm pivot inside the foundation box, rather than a simple rotary shaft directly at the hinge. This jointed arm design allows the motor to be positioned slightly offset from the gate hinge centre while still delivering rotational force through the arm, giving installers more flexibility in foundation box placement relative to the hinge axis. Most other underground motors (CAME FROG, BFT ELI, BENINCA DU.350N) use a direct shaft-to-hinge connection without an intermediate arm.

The GE UNI RS DL is LIFE’s dedicated control board for the ERGO underground motor range, supplied with the 433.92 MHz rolling code receiver integrated directly into the board. This eliminates the need for a separate plug-in receiver module, keeping the control enclosure compact. It manages both underground motors, integrates the VISIO photocells and blinker, accepts push button input, and decodes the Maxi2 transmitter commands. The integrated receiver design reduces wiring points in the control enclosure compared to systems requiring a separate receiver card, which is an installation simplification that reduces fault points over the gate’s service life.

LIFE explicitly states that in windy areas or where the gate has a particular structural shape, the ERGO’s stated usage limits (3m leaf, 35% intermittence) should be reduced below their published maximums. Abu Dhabi’s shamal wind — the prevailing north-westerly wind reaching 40–60 km/h seasonally — applies significant lateral force to solid gate panels. A 3.0m solid steel gate panel in a wind-exposed entrance will generate more resistance per cycle than the same gate in a sheltered location, effectively increasing motor load beyond the rated limit. Installers should specify a shorter leaf length or lower weight in exposed sites.

The LIFE ERGO kit includes VISIO external safety photocells — LIFE’s own outdoor-rated photocell pair forming the safety beam across the gate opening, compatible with the GE UNI RS DL control board. The Maxi2 transmitters are LIFE’s 433.92 MHz rolling code 2-channel remote controls, the same remote family used with the LIFE Armor surface motor. Using matched LIFE accessories ensures confirmed protocol compatibility with the GE UNI RS DL receiver. Additional Maxi2 remotes can be paired to the integrated receiver without changing the control unit, and VISIO photocells can be replaced with the same model if damaged.

The LIFE ERGO 230V kit carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty on all included components. The kit does not include foundation boxes — these must be ordered separately from LIFE’s three available foundation box types matched to the site pit depth, drainage design, and gate hinge geometry. Foundation boxes must be on-site before groundwork begins as they are cast permanently into concrete. In wind-exposed Abu Dhabi locations, the motor’s 35% intermittence limit should be treated as a ceiling, not a target, to maintain long-term reliability.
