The BFT IGEA KIT runs a 230V AC motor directly from the mains supply at 300W, while the IGEA BT uses a 24V DC motor powered via the control unit’s internal transformer at just 40W. The higher 230V motor draws more power because it is a conventional AC electromechanical design with inherently higher winding resistance and less efficient power conversion at the motor level. The 24V DC motor in the IGEA BT is more electrically efficient for the same mechanical output because of lower resistive losses at 24V and better torque control from the THALIA board. For Abu Dhabi properties where electricity running costs matter or where the gate supply circuit has limited amperage, the IGEA BT’s 40W draw is significantly more economical for identical gate automation performance.

The BFT IGEA KIT does not include a built-in electronic slowdown function, meaning the gate travels at a constant speed throughout the full 15-second open and close cycle and stops abruptly when the electromechanical limit switch triggers at end-of-travel. In practice, this means the gate reaches its fully open or closed position at operating speed without decelerating. The electronic clutch impact reaction still provides safety protection if an obstruction is detected mid-cycle, but without slowdown, the mechanical stress on the articulated arm joints, gate hinges, and gate stop is higher than on the IGEA BT. For Abu Dhabi villa gates with heavy wrought-iron leaves approaching 250 kg, this should be factored into the long-term maintenance expectation.

The RIGEL 6 is BFT’s multi-channel control unit that supports connection of up to 6 automation devices — motors, photocells, electric locks, additional keypads, and access control inputs — making it capable of managing complex gate systems beyond a simple two-motor swing gate setup. The THALIA (used in the IGEA BT kit) is a dedicated 24V swing gate control board with a simpler channel structure optimised for residential use. For an Abu Dhabi installation where the IGEA KIT gates are part of a larger access control system with a second entry point, parking barrier, or electric lock on the same control circuit, the RIGEL 6’s multi-device capacity is a meaningful advantage over the THALIA’s more focused design.

The BFT IGEA KIT includes 2 x MITTO remote controls — BFT’s own branded transmitter range designed to pair directly with BFT control units including the RIGEL 6. MITTO remotes use BFT’s rolling code security protocol, generating a new encrypted signal with each press to prevent code-grabbing by third parties. The MITTO family is available in 2-channel and 4-channel variants, and the two remotes included in the kit can be supplemented with additional MITTO transmitters paired to the RIGEL 6’s receiver memory. For Abu Dhabi properties where multiple family members need individual remotes, additional MITTO units can be purchased and programmed without needing to reconfigure the RIGEL 6 board.

The BFT IGEA KIT carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty from purchase covering defects in materials and workmanship. Because the IGEA KIT has no slowdown function, the electromechanical limit switch adjustment is critical — if the switch triggers fractionally late, the 230V motor continues at full speed into the mechanical stop, creating repeated impact stress that degrades the articulated arm joints over time and voids warranty. The motor’s 300W 230V supply also makes surge protection important: a voltage spike to the RIGEL 6 control board without a surge protector on the circuit is a common warranty-voiding event.
