SOMFY Ixengo L 3S RTS Swing Gate Motor

The Somfy Ixengo L 3S RTS’s 10 to 34 second 90° opening range is the widest of any Somfy motor in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi range. The 24-second spread reflects how strongly installation geometry affects cycle time at 465mm stroke. When the pillar bracket and gate leaf bracket are positioned at the most mechanically favourable angles, the 465mm stroke covers the 90° arc in fewer millimetres of rod travel, completing faster. At constrained geometry, the full 465mm must extend to achieve the same arc, taking significantly longer at the same 2000N and 40W. Bracket positioning during installation determines where in the 10–34 second range the gate settles.

Soft stop is the Ixengo L 3S’s electronic deceleration function: the 3S control box reduces the motor’s speed in the final phase of travel before the magnetic end limit stops the mechanism, so the gate arrives at its open or closed position gently rather than abruptly. Adjustable torque allows the installer to set the maximum force the motor applies before the obstacle detection triggers a stop — lower torque settings provide more sensitive obstacle response; higher settings suit heavier gates where more force is normal during movement. Both settings are adjusted through the 3S control box without additional tools.

The Somfy Ixengo L 3S RTS’s non-reversing (irreversible) screw mechanism means the motor’s lead screw cannot be back-driven by an external force. When the gate is stationary, wind pressure or a physical attempt to push or pull the leaf cannot move the screw thread backwards through the motor housing. The gate is mechanically locked in position by the screw geometry, not just by friction or a brake. For Abu Dhabi villa gates exposed to shamal wind gusts or in locations where gate security is important, the non-reversing mechanism provides passive holding resistance without power consumption between cycles.

Somfy explicitly lists the Ixengo L 3S RTS as compatible with solar power supply where mains electricity is difficult to obtain. The 24V motor at 40W maximum power draw can be powered by a solar panel and battery system rather than a 230V mains connection. For Abu Dhabi compound boundary gates, agricultural property entrances, or villa perimeter gates where trenching a power cable from the building is costly or impractical, solar supply at 40W is achievable with a reasonably sized panel and battery. The low 40W draw also minimises battery storage requirements for overnight or cloudy-day operation.

The Somfy Ixengo L 3S RTS carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty. Two geometric constraints are mandatory: minimum 160mm of clear space behind the gate leaf for rod travel, and maximum 183mm hinge pin offset from the mounting surface. Exceeding either causes off-axis rod stress that damages the screw mechanism. The magnetic end limits must be set correctly at commissioning to define the soft stop deceleration point.
