The FAAC 740 (model 740 E Z16) is a 230V asynchronous single-phase gearmotor for residential sliding gates up to 500 kg and 15m leaf. It delivers 450N maximum force at 12 m/min through a 1:25 reduction ratio and Z16 M4 pinion, with an incorporated 740D electronic control unit, optical encoder for obstacle detection and slowdown, and magnetic limit switch. At AED 1,275 with a complete kit, it is the entry-level FAAC sliding gate product in the POWERgate Abu Dhabi range for Abu Dhabi villa and light commercial installations.

The FAAC 740’s optical encoder detects motor shaft rotation using a light beam interrupted by a slotted disc. Each slot-pass generates a pulse, counted by the 740D board to track exact gate position. An optical encoder provides high resolution position counts at a fixed rate per revolution. Virtual encoders (used by BENINCA and others) estimate position from motor current; Hall Effect sensors (CENTURION) use magnets. Optical encoders offer precise, noise-immune position counting but require clean conditions — contamination of the optical path by Abu Dhabi dust can affect signal quality, making a sealed, ventilated housing important.

FAAC explicitly states the 740 has no speed adjustment and no motor control function — the gate moves at a fixed 12 m/min throughout the cycle. Speed cannot be reduced or increased via the 740D board. This contrasts with motors like the Ditec NeoS (adjustable 0.1–0.4 m/s) or CENTURION D5 SMART (varies with load). For Abu Dhabi residential gates where 12 m/min is acceptable, this is not a limitation. However, installers cannot tune the speed to reduce vehicle waiting time or to slow movement near a pedestrian-sensitive entrance without upgrading to a different model.

The FAAC 740 kit includes an XT2 433 SLH LR 2-channel transmitter and RP 433 SLH 1-channel plug-in receiver. SLH (Selective Learning Hopping) is FAAC’s proprietary rolling code radio protocol operating at 433.92 MHz. The LR (Long Range) suffix on the XT2 confirms extended transmission distance. SLH remotes are paired only to SLH receivers; generic 433 MHz remotes are not compatible. The FAAC XP 20D photocells included in the kit are FAAC’s outdoor beam safety sensors aligned with FAAC’s wiring standard for the 740D control board.

The FAAC 740 carries a 24-month FAAC manufacturer warranty.
