This extended cycle time is a direct result of the motor’s long actuator stroke covering a 5.0m gate leaf arc at 260W: the worm gear reduces speed to multiply force, and at 5.0m the required travel distance is significantly greater than the 3.0m A3000 or the 2.5m ATHOS A25 motors. The 30–40 second range also reflects the thrust spectrum — at lower thrust settings on lighter gates the motor completes the arc faster, while at higher thrust settings on heavier 400 kg leaves the cycle approaches 40 seconds. At 15 cycles per hour, the motor is designed for residential moderate-frequency use rather than rapid-access commercial applications.

The CAME ATI A5000 includes microswitch limit switches for both the open and closed gate positions. The opening microswitch signals the control panel when the gate has reached its fully open position, triggering the auto-close timer and pedestrian function logic. The closing microswitch signals the control panel when the gate has reached its fully closed position — confirming positive closure rather than relying on a timed motor run to assume the gate is shut. For a 5.0m gate leaf, this closing confirmation is especially important: longer leaves experience more swing inertia, wind resistance, and potential hinge drag that can cause the gate to stop fractionally short of fully closed without the motor detecting it. The closing switch provides a reliable electronic “gate is secure” signal, which the A3000’s timing-only close approach cannot guarantee.

CAME’s installation guidance for the ATI A5000 states that gate leaves exceeding 4.0 metres must have an electric lock installed for safe closure. A gate leaf longer than 4.0m experiences a significant lever-arm effect at its leading edge: wind pressure, vehicle turbulence, or light physical contact near the leaf tip generates a turning force at the hinge that increases with leaf length. When the motor is in the closed position but not actively driving, only the mechanical gearmotor lock holds the gate shut. On a 5.0m leaf, this may be insufficient against sustained wind loading without an additional electric lock anchoring the leaf at the latch point. CAME also requires a ground-secured mechanical stop to prevent over-extension of the gate leaf beyond the motor’s maximum travel, protecting both the actuator and the gate pillar structure.

The CAME ATI A5000 and A3000 both use 260W motors with the same 400–4000N adjustable thrust, yet the A5000 handles gates twice the length. This is possible because the longer gate leaf creates a more favourable lever arm geometry at the actuator bracket position: a 5.0m leaf with the bracket placed at the correct distance from the hinge pivot requires less linear force to initiate movement than a shorter leaf with the same gate weight and bracket position. The trade-off is speed — the same 260W moving through a longer arc takes 30–40 seconds versus 19–25 seconds for the A3000. The motor’s worm gear ratio converts motor rotation into the slower, more powerful rod movement needed for the 5.0m arc, and the 400–4000N thrust adjustment allows the installer to fine-tune the force delivery for the specific gate weight encountered on site.

The CAME ATI A5000 carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty from purchase. For warranty compliance on a 5.0m gate installation, three CAME-mandated requirements must be met: an electric lock must be installed for leaves exceeding 4.0m; a ground-secured mechanical stop must be in place to prevent gate over-travel beyond the motor’s range; and the CAME DELTA DIR photocell pair must be correctly positioned and aligned as the primary safety device (encoder and obstacle amperometric detection are not specified for the 230V A5000 version). Because the 15 cycles per hour maximum is lower than many other motors, the gate system should be programmed with adequate inter-cycle delay to avoid repeated thermal protection triggers on the 150°C-protected motor.
