Both the FAAC 844 ER Z16 and the FAAC 746 ER Z16 use 230V oil-bath twin-disk clutch gearmotor, 780D control board, non-reversing design, Z16 M4 pinion, IP44, 70% duty, and 40m max leaf. The 844 ER steps up to 1800 kg, 650W, 1160N thrust, 1:30 reduction ratio, 9.5 m/min, FAAC XP 30 photocells, 2 receivers, and foundation plate included. The 746 ER handles 600 kg at 400W, 810N, and 9.6 m/min. The 844 ER at AED 3,875 is the commercial-grade FAAC oil-bath motor for 1800 kg industrial installations.

The FAAC 844 ER includes 2 x RP 433 SLH 1-channel plug-in receivers — the only FAAC sliding gate kit in the range to include two receivers as standard. Two receivers allow separate radio channels for entry and exit management, or for connection to two different control points (e.g. guard booth and remote button). The kit also includes FAAC XP 30 photocells, a larger-format FAAC safety beam rated for 30-metre range, compared to the XP 20D (20-metre range) in smaller FAAC kits — appropriate for wider 1800 kg commercial gate openings.

The FAAC 844 ER specifies FAAC XD 220 or FAAC HP oil (depending on document version) for its oil-bath gearbox. FAAC’s proprietary gear oils are formulated for the specific viscosity range, thermal stability, and additive package compatible with the 844 ER’s twin-disk clutch and gear metallurgy. Using a non-specified oil with incorrect viscosity or incompatible additives can affect clutch slip behaviour, alter the force-limiting threshold, and accelerate gear wear. For Abu Dhabi’s high ambient temperatures, maintaining the correct oil grade is particularly important to preserve consistent torque limiting at the clutch under summer operating conditions.

FAAC’s designation of the 844 ER as designed for vehicle access control only means it is not certified or intended for pedestrian-only gate applications. The 844 ER’s 1:30 reduction ratio and 1160N thrust are sized for vehicle-sized openings and vehicle detection scenarios. Photocell and safety edge requirements, obstacle detection sensitivity, and stopping distances at 9.5 m/min are calibrated for vehicles rather than pedestrian hazard avoidance. For Abu Dhabi gates where pedestrians regularly use the same sliding gate opening as vehicles, additional safety accessories and a separate pedestrian door should be specified.
