The electronic clutch on the BFT ATHOS AC A25 is an integrated safety mechanism that monitors motor load during gate movement. If the gate encounters an obstruction — a vehicle, a person, or a foreign object — the electronic clutch detects the sudden increase in resistance and immediately stops or reverses the gate to prevent injury or mechanical damage. This is a layer of protection in addition to the photocell pair included in the kit. The clutch operates electronically, meaning it responds in milliseconds without relying solely on photocell beam interruption. Semi-intensive means the ATHOS AC A25 is rated for more cycles per day than a standard 30% duty cycle motor but does not reach the continuous operation of an intensive-use motor. In practical terms, a semi-intensive motor handles approximately 30 to 50 open/close cycles per day reliably — more than the 15–20 cycles of the BENINCA BILL and BOB 30% range, but below the unlimited cycling of the BENINCA DU.350N. With a 14-second cycle time on the ATHOS AC A25, each open/close sequence completes in approximately 30 seconds, making it well-suited to busier Abu Dhabi villa driveways, small commercial entrances, or properties with higher daily vehicle access.

The BFT ATHOS AC A25 opens swing gate leaves to a maximum of 110° from the closed position. This is a critical specification for installation planning: if your gate needs to open wider than 110° to allow full vehicle clearance, the ATHOS AC A25 is not the correct motor. For most standard Abu Dhabi villa driveways with double-leaf swing gates opening inward toward the property, a 90° to 110° opening angle provides full vehicle access. The 300mm useful rod stroke determines the physical reach of the actuator during the 110° arc, and the installation geometry must match this specification for the limit switch to function correctly.

The ALENA SW2 is BFT’s dedicated control board for the ATHOS AC A25, operating on a 230 V board power supply. It manages both ATHOS motors simultaneously, controls the built-in slowdown function as the gate approaches its open and closed positions, integrates with the electronic clutch impact reaction system, and accepts the self-aligning photocell pair included in the kit. The ALENA SW2 uses work-time limit switches (rather than position-based or encoder-based limits), meaning gate travel is controlled by timed motor run duration rather than physical position feedback. Included remote controls operate at 50m standard range (100m in open conditions), and additional BFT-compatible transmitters can be paired to the board.

The BFT ATHOS AC A25 carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty from the purchase date covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal operating conditions. Warranty is voided by power surge damage to the ALENA SW2 control board, incorrect actuator geometry causing stress on the 300mm rod stroke mechanism, incorrect force or clutch adjustment creating excessive load on the motor, or modification of any component. The motor’s IP54 rating and -20°C to +55°C operating range ensure suitability for Abu Dhabi’s outdoor environment when correctly installed.
